Plot
Elphaba, a misunderstood young girl because of her green skin, and Glinda, a popular girl, become friends at Shizo University in the Land of Oz. After an encounter with the wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads. Cynthia Erivo in The Wicked and more actors who completely transformed themselves for their roles. Chu wanted the world of Oz to feel like a real place, not just a computer-generated set. This included planting 9 million tulips to become part of the Munchkinland landscape. In the classroom, where Elphaba makes the flowers rise into the air and the pollen puts the students to sleep, you can clearly see the wire hanging from one of the moving flowers.

It will be interesting to see if this is fixed for the streaming and DVD release of the film. Wizard: [from the trailer] The best way to bring people together is to give them a really good enemy. Every time we’ve been to the movies over the past few months and the Wicked trailer has come on, my wife has hugged the kid because she loves the show, and I’ve been like, “Oh my gosh, this is what I live for most of my life.” So I was counting down the days and dreading it, and when I heard the runtime I got even more confused. I wanted to hate this movie with every bone in my body for so many reasons. 1. I don’t like musicals (but I can cringe at them sometimes). 2. I love The Wizard of Oz in its purest form and didn’t want to ruin its legacy.
My wife’s movie choices are mostly “questionable”
3. Sitting in a movie theater chair for two hours or more isn’t doing my back any favors these days. Ariana Grande. Now, realistically, my first impression of the movie might hurt a little because I went in with very low expectations, as I’ve done many times before, but in my old age, call me soft-haired (I’m 47) I absolutely loved it! Everything from the phenomenal soundtrack, the sets, the makeup, the costumes, the comedic elements, the character designs, etc., I could go on and on, you get the idea. It was amazing, I might even watch it again (the highest rating I can give a movie over two hours long) and I can’t wait for part 2.
One more point
Some purists have quibbles and complaints that adaptations of previous formats will always have. But there are no complaints here, just a very good and well-made movie. The legacy of The Wizard of Oz is intact. Ariana Grande steals it for me. Perfect selection!!!.
